The Army, responding to the recent wave of Americans caught selling secrets to the Soviets, said it will open a nationwide hot line for soldiers to report suspected spying activities by their buddies. The toll-free spy line, the first of its kind by any of the military services, will begin taking calls April 30 following a successful yearlong trial at one base each in North Carolina, Texas, Georgia and Washington state, an Army spokesman said. The Army is asking its soldiers to report suspicious activities that include taking “unexplained trips out of the country,” receiving long distance phone calls “from people with foreign accents” and bragging about working on classified or sensitive information.
