Ex-Heisman Winner Jailed

SAN DIEGO — Former Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers was ordered today to spend six months in jail on his conviction for threatening a cable television technician with a gun and being a felon in possession of a weapon.

Rodgers, who won college football’s highest honor while at Nebraska, was convicted Jan. 28 of assault with a deadly weapon in a case stemming from a 1985 incident at Rodgers’ home when a Cox Cable technician arrived to disconnect service due to nonpayment of a bill. The weapons possession charge was filed because Rodgers was convicted in 1971 of a gasoline station robbery while in Nebraska.
