As far as Jim Stephens is concerned, the Valley College women’s basketball team is right where it deserves to be as it plays host to Citrus at 7 tonight in the Southern California regional playoffs.
The Monarchs (22-4), who shared the Southern California Conference title with Trade-Tech, are seeded No. 2 in the 16-team field behind Golden West--the only opponent they didn’t defeat this season.
If Valley beats Citrus, seeded No. 15, it would play host to the winner of tonight’s MiraCosta-Bakersfield game on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Moorpark, runner-up in the Southern Division of the Western State Conference, visits Cerritos at 7:30 tonight in another first-round playoff game. The Raiders are seeded No. 12 in the tournament. Cerritos is seeded No. 5.
SCC co-titlist Trade-Tech is seeded fourth in the tournament ahead of WSC division winners Ventura (sixth) and Bakersfield (10th). MiraCosta is seventh.
