Former St. John’s basketball star Robert (Zeke) Zawoluk, who admitted setting fire to two luxury cars and damaging 17 others after he was fired as an auto salesman, was sentenced in Mineola, N.Y., to five years’ probation.
Nassau County Court Judge Raymond Harrington also ordered Zawoluk, 55, to undergo evaluation for possible alcohol or psychiatric problems.
Zawoluk was also sentenced to the four months he had already spent in the Nassau County jail when he was unable to post his $2,500 bail while awaiting disposition of the charges.
As center for St. John’s from 1949 to 1952, Zawoluk set a scoring record that stood for 32 years until broken by Chris Mullin in 1984.
