Horner Chooses to Play in Japan

Bob Horner, former Atlanta Braves slugger whose test of the free-agent market got no response, has apparently agreed to a one-year contract to play in Japan.
Horner’s agent, Bucky Woy, said Kazuo Souma, president of the Yakult Swallows, was in Dallas Friday to meet with Woy and wrap up the details. Terms of the contract were not disclosed, but the Dallas Morning News said it was believed that Horner will receive “well in excess of $1 million.”
Horner turned down a three-year, $4.5-million offer from the Braves at the end of last season. Then, after he failed to receive an offer from any other team, Woy proposed a one-year contract with a base salary of $800,000 to Texas in mid-March, but the Rangers rejected the offer.
