Rosenberg’s assessment that films and books about the Holocaust appeal mainly to our morbid curiosity and are generated largely for their marketability trivializes the misery suffered then and still suffered by survivors and their families.
If commercials are what it takes to put such movies on the air, then history is served by whichever sponsors enable the presentation of such films.
I have heard all too many times about anti-Semitic groups who claim it never happened as well as remarks such as “it was a long time ago” that are meant to suggest it could never happen here or again.
Ask a Japanese-American about Manzanar; although there were no ovens, similar discrimination happened here; and not that long ago. Those who do not study history are doomed to repeat it.
