WASHINGTON — The House on Thursday passed and sent to President Reagan a stopgap bill to make sure retirees continue to receive life and health insurance benefits when companies file for bankruptcy.

The temporary law expires on May 15. The stopgap bill would extend protection to Sept. 15.
