‘Make My Day’ Law Allows Oklahomans to Shoot Intruders

OKLAHOMA CITY — Oklahomans now have the right to use deadly force against intruders they believe may cause them harm.
The “Make My Day” bill containing that provision, which was signed into law Thursday by Gov. Henry Bellmon, permits homeowners to use any force when they believe intruders present a threat of violence. It also makes the homeowner immune from civil liability and allows the use of the fear of a threat of violence as a defense in criminal proceedings.
The law got its nickname from one of Clint Eastwood’s “Dirty Harry” movies, in which he urged a criminal to give him an excuse to open fire.
