Aztecs’ Noriega Upset in Quarterfinals

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — Top-seeded Julio Noriega of San Diego State was upset by No. 7 Steve Bickham of New Mexico, 6-4, 6-3, in the quarterfinals of the Western Athletic Conference men’s tennis championships Friday afternoon.
The Aztecs were eliminated from the individual tournament when No. 5 Russell Meyers was defeated by No. 4 Brian Monson of Utah, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, in another quarterfinal match. The Aztecs finished second to Utah in the team championship earlier in the week.
