“The Lady Eve.” “The Palm Beach Story.” MCA. $29.95 each. “Eve” (1941) may have the broadest appeal of Preston Sturges’ films--a shipboard-country house romantic farce with plenty of particularly Sturgean touches but also much in common with Hollywood “screwball” comedies such as “The Awful Truth.” It’s pure delight, and Barbara Stanwyck is perfect as the con woman who tries to trip up Henry Fonda, only to fall for him. “Story” (1942), though, offers a more characteristic look inside the madhouse of kooky people and situations that Sturges loved to construct--here, for instance, are the memorable Wienie King and the gun-happy Ale and Quail Club. Claudette Colbert and Joel McCrea are the relatively calm center of this marital merry-go-round. Information: (818) 777-4315. Both: ****
