NAPLES, Italy — Two gunmen fatally shot the president of a Naples soccer club in front of 1,000 spectators just before the start of a local league game, police said Monday.
They said the victim, Angelo Magliulo, was a suspected member of the Camorra, or Naples Mafia, and appeared to have been the victim of a long-running feud between rival clans.
The gunmen fired about 20 shots at Magliulo, 35, before calmly walking out of the stadium. No spectators attempted to intervene.
The minor league match between Magliulo’s club, Afragola, and Santa Maria a Vico was called off.
