The three people most seriously injured in a fire and a dramatic accident at Alabama International Motor Speedway in Talladega, Ala., during the weekend were listed as improving.
Crewman Harry Rommell of Nashville, Tenn., was burned Saturday in a pit accident, and two spectators, James D. Townes of Union City, Tenn., and Sara Cork of Tuscaloosa, suffered eye injuries Sunday when Bobby Allison’s car blew a tire on the front stretch, flew into a fence and sent debris into the stands.
At Birmingham, the 52-year-old Rommell was moved Monday from an intensive care unit to a nursing unit, with his condition listed as fair.
Townes underwent eye surgery in Birmingham and further surgery is planned in about a week.
Cork, 27, who also suffered eye cuts, was listed in stable condition in Tuscaloosa.
