The parachutist who dropped in on Game 6 of the 1986 World Series was sentenced in Brooklyn to six months in jail and a fine that could reach $18,000 for refusing to name the pilot involved in the stunt.
U.S. District Judge Henry Bramwell said he had no choice but to take action that may compel Michael Sergio to cooperate with officials from the Federal Aviation Administration.
Sergio, 37, an actor, jumped uninvited into Shea Stadium during the Oct. 25 World Series game between the Boston Red Sox and New York Mets.
He pleaded guilty to misdemeanor charges last December and was sentenced to 100 hours of community service.
Bramwell granted Sergio immunity from criminal prosecution on April 20 but ordered him to answer questions from the FAA, which wants to know the name of the pilot and the plane’s registration number. Sergio refused to answer and was held in civil contempt.
