Dozens of Soviet judges who flouted the laws and bowed to Communist Party bosses have been purged, the Soviet Union said. Last year, 76 judges were sacked for abuse of office, 14 were dropped for lack of professional qualifications and disciplinary proceedings had been started against 837, Soviet Justice Minister Boris V. Kravtsov told the party newspaper Pravda. Of sitting judges, 22% could not be recommended for a further term of office when judicial elections are held in June, Kravtsov said.
