Former President Salvador Jorge Blanco, accused of stealing millions of dollars from the government, left the Dominican Republic for Atlanta to be treated for a heart ailment. Jorge Blanco, 60, boarded a specially equipped airplane after being taken by ambulance from a private hospital in the capital where he had been treated for the past week. Jorge Blanco was allowed to leave after he guaranteed that he would return to the Dominican Republic to face corruption charges when his stay in Atlanta is completed, the government said.
