The 15-month-old son of Clipper guard Marques Johnson was in critical condition Friday night after falling into the swimming pool at the family home in Bel-Air, authorities said.
Marques Kevin Johnson II was not breathing and had no heartbeat when paramedics arrived at UCLA Medical Center shortly after 5:20 p.m. A nursing supervisor said doctors were still administering cardio-pulmonary resuscitation to the boy more than an hour after he was admitted.
A 911 emergency dispatcher received a telephone call at 5 p.m. from the Johnson home on Stradella Court, a Los Angeles Fire Department spokesman said.
“A little child said this was a serious call and her brother had fallen into the pool,” he said. “The dispatcher instructed her to bring her father to the phone.”
Johnson took telephoned instructions from the dispatcher to give his son CPR. Johnson, 31, and his wife, Jocelyn, were attempting to revive the child, when paramedics arrived, Patchett said.
Johnson, a former UCLA All-American, has two other sons--Kristaan, 10, and Josiah, 4.
