Rancho Alamitos Upsets La Quinta, Makes Playoffs

With an assist from Santiago High School, Rancho Alamitos qualified for the Southern Section playoffs with a 6-2 victory Friday over La Quinta at Rancho Alamitos.

Santiago defeated Garden Grove, 6-5, to allow Rancho Alamitos to go to the playoffs as the third-place team in the Garden Grove League.

Steve Jenkins hit a grand slam in the fourth inning and Tony George hit a two-run double in the fifth for Rancho Alamitos (7-7-1, 10-13-1).

Mike Willey (3-3) pitched into the fifth, and Pat Davis worked the final 2 innings to get the save. It was the second time this week that Rancho Alamitos has upset first-place La Quinta (13-2, 22-4).
