Computer software maker Ashton-Tate Corp. said its first-quarter earnings jumped 78% to $9.1 million from a year ago. Revenue rose 46% to $60.2 million.
The Torrance-based firm’s chairman and chief executive, Edward Esber Jr., credited the results to increasing demand for its main products, including dBASE III PLUS, which maintained its position as the best-selling microcomputer database software package on the market.
The firm also is shipping its MultiMate Advantage II software and recently announced the availability of all its products on 3 1/2-inch disks to run on IBM’s Personal System/2 microcomputers.
