Chicago-based Navistar International Corp., a truck and engine manufacturer, posted a 145% jump in operating profits for the second quarter ended April 30. The firm said operating income for the six months rose nearly 35%. Six-month figures, however, exclude a one-time charge of $84.8 million taken earlier to retire debt and a $21.9-million gain reported in the previous year.
