A brief fire caused $30,000 damage to a Balboa Island house and its contents Saturday, a Fire Department spokesman said.
The fire at the home of Bari Rochette at 1504 S. Bay Front was brought under control in 10 minutes by 16 firefighters who responded in three engines, one truck and a command unit, according to a report written by Newport Beach Fire Department engineer-investigator Ron Bryg. There were no injuries.
The fires, believed to have been started by sparks from a fireplace, caused about $25,000 damage to the structure and $5,000 damage to its contents, Bryg said. But fire officials estimated they prevented another $30,000 damage to the house and $50,000 to its contents.
