Tekelec Reports Loss of $178,000 in 2nd Quarter

Tekelec said it lost $178,000, or 5 cents a share, in the second quarter ended June 30. The Calabasas maker of telecommunications testing equipment had previously said that its results would include a special loss of $381,000, or 11 cents a share, in part for added product development and inventory costs.
In the second quarter a year ago, Tekelec earned $336,000, or 10 cents a share. Revenue in the latest quarter rose 21% from a year earlier to $4.0 million.
For the six months, Tekelec lost $87,000, or 2 cents a share, compared to earnings of $679,000, or 22 cents a share, a year earlier. Revenue rose 16% to $7.6 million.
