Cigna reported that its second-quarter earnings rose 65% to $183.8 million, compared to $111.1 million in the year-ago period. The Philadelphia-based insurance and financial firm said improvement in property and casualty results, as well as strong group insurance and pension fund performances, were partly offset by losses and expansion costs of health plans and lower sales of individual life insurance policies.
