The Nation : Park Flight Limits Voted
Legislation restricting sightseeing flights over national parks won final approval in a voice vote in the House and was sent to President Reagan for his signature. The measure, inspired by a collision a year ago over the Grand Canyon that killed 25 people, bans flights below the rim of the Grand Canyon and requires aircraft to remain at least 2,000 feet over California’s Yosemite National Park and 9,500 above sea level over Haleakala National Park in Hawaii. The bill calls for a study of at least 10 national parks to determine safety and environmental effects of overflights.
