Robert Morris Named Publisher of Daily News

Robert Steven Morris, vice president of advertising at the Denver Post, has been named publisher of the Daily News by Jack Kent Cooke, owner of the San Fernando Valley newspaper.
Morris, 35, succeeds Byron C. Campbell, who resigned in March after management disagreements with Cooke, owner of the Washington Redskins football team and former owner of the Los Angeles Lakers basketball team and Los Angeles Kings hockey team. Campbell said Tuesday that he is still looking for a job.
Morris’ appointment is the second major executive change at the Woodland Hills-based newspaper in the past week. Last Friday, Cooke named Robert W. Burdick, formerly managing editor for news, as editor, replacing Timothy M. Kelly, who resigned to become managing editor of the Orange County Register in Santa Ana.
Before joining the Denver Post in April, 1986, Morris was vice president of advertising at the Detroit Free Press. The Denver Post is owned by Times Mirror Co., which also owns the Los Angeles Times.
