A 24-year-old man was critically wounded early Sunday in a shooting that investigators suspect was a robbery attempt, a police Santa Ana spokesman said.
Santa Ana Police Sgt. John Dittus said Frank Berman was found shot twice in the head about 2:40 a.m. in the 500 block of South Oak Street. Dittus said an accident had been reported at the scene.
He said officers found Berman in a car that had run into a parked car. Berman was taken to Western Medical Center in Santa Ana, where he was placed on a life support system, Dittus said.
Berman’s companion, Luz Maria Jimenez, who was injured in the car crash, told police Berman was shot by a man who had tried to rob him. She was listed in stable condition Sunday in Kaiser Permanente Hospital in Anaheim.
Dittus said there are no suspects.
