Former Philadelphia 76er Coach Billy Cunningham said he agreed to eventually sever his ties with 1988 National Basketball Assn. expansion team the Miami Heat to become the top commentator for CBS-TV.
However, Cunningham said CBS had asked him to immediately end his association with the Heat, and he refused. Cunningham said he convinced the network to accept a compromise that will let him offer the Heat his advice for about one more year. That means Cunningham will have a say in the selection of a head coach and a player personnel director in addition to the college and dispersal drafts.
