Area Team Wins in State Baseball

Jason Moler of Esperanza High School singled, scored a run and had a sacrifice fly to help the 714/619 area-code team to a 4-0 victory over the 213 team Sunday in the championship game of the California State Baseball Games on Zupo Field in Lodi.
Moler had a two-out single in fourth and scored on a double by Randy Graves of Riverside Poly to give the team a 2-0 lead. Kevin O’Connor of Mater Dei reached first on an error, stole second, went to third on a passed ball and scored on Moler’s sacrifice fly for a 3-0 lead in the sixth.
Larry Sutton of Mater Dei singled, stole second and scored on a two-out single by Ron Kelly of Mt. Carmel in the ninth.
Second baseman Doug Saunders of Esperanza, who hit .400 (8 for 20), was named the tournament’s most valuable defensive player.
