Portuguese Respect

On June 19, while traveling south from Lisbon on a train, a Portuguese soldier stole my Walkman radio. I later saw him on the train and he was arrested and my radio confiscated as evidence. I called the appropriate authorities from Salamanca, Spain, where I was a summer student; they assured me the radio would be returned to me after the trial. Last week my radio with tape cassette was returned to me fro1830843496Washington, D.C., with a letter of apology.
My family and I were overwhelmingly pleased and impressed with the government and military of Portugal for their kindness, cooperation and respect for a teen-age student from a foreign country.
