Oxnard to Expand Sewage Facility
The Oxnard Planning Commission approved a $50.5-million expansion of its Ormond Beach waste-water treatment facility over objections from the residents of an adjacent condominium complex in Port Hueneme.
The expansion would increase the capacity of the Perkins Road plant from 22.6 to 31.7 million gallons per day, taking care of the needs of Oxnard, Port Hueneme and Point Mugu through 1997. With a flow of 20.5 million gallons per day, the treatment plant is approaching capacity, said Public Works Director James E. Frandsen.
The Surfside III Condominium Owners Assn. expressed concern at the Oct. 1 meeting that the expansion would increase noise and odor from the plant and that, as Port Hueneme residents, they would be powerless to seek remedy.
