A ground-breaking ceremony at 10 a.m. on Wednesday at Temple Israel in Hollywood will celebrate the start of a $1.5-million renovation of the landmark structure, built in 1936.
Rabbi Daniel Polish said the project will expand the present facilities to include a nursery school and kindergarten and new playground and social hall. Architect Jack Warner, president of Warner & Gray, has retained the Spanish architectural style with the addition of atriums and open spaces.
Temple children will plant a tree on Hollywood Boulevard in honor of Hollywood’s 100th birthday and its renaissance, Polish said. The temple is located at 7300 Hollywood Blvd.
