BRUSSELS — Belgian Foreign Minister Leo Tindemans will run in next month’s general election despite having passed his party’s age limit of 65, a party spokesman said on Wednesday.
The spokesman for the Flemish-speaking Social Christian party, the biggest member of the current center-right coalition, said it had decided to waive the age limit in the case of Tindemans, who turned 65 last April.
A former prime minister, Tindemans had been mentioned as a possible candidate to take over as secretary general of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
