Biden Aims for Dec. 7 Hearings

WASHINGTON — The chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee said today that he hopes to begin confirmation hearings for Supreme Court nominee Douglas H. Ginsburg the week of Dec. 7 and finish before the Senate adjourns for the year.
Sen. Joseph R. Biden Jr. (D-Del.) announced the starting-time target at a committee meeting, but said it was “not in concrete.” He said that before hearings can begin, an American Bar Assn. review panel must complete its work and the FBI must finish its background check on Ginsburg. The week of Dec. 7 is the same week as the U.S.-Soviet summit in Washington.
