After a 30-plus-year absence, Walt Disney’s mischievous chipmunks, Chip and Dale, are returning to the little screen. Spurred by the success of “Ducktales,” Disney’s Buena Vista Television has announced plans for “Chip and Dale’s Rescue Rangers,” the company’s second animated series created for first-run syndication. Except for a brief cameo in “Mickey’s Christmas Carol” (1983), the cartoon chipmunks had been in hibernation since 1956, when their popular cartoon series with Donald Duck ended. The 65 half-hour episodes of the chipmunks’ comedy-adventure show will debut in the fall of 1989, in conjunction with 30 new installments of “Ducktales.”
