Local News in Brief : Burbank Renames Two Blocks of Mall
- Share via
The Burbank City Council has changed the name of two blocks of the pedestrian Burbank Golden Mall that have been opened to automobile traffic.
The two blocks, between Verdugo and Olive avenues, will now be known as San Fernando Boulevard.
The Golden Mall, six blocks long, was part of San Fernando Boulevard until it was closed to traffic in 1967 to create a pedestrian mall. But shops on the mall have not been successful, and officials are planning to reopen the mall to automobiles.
One of the blocks was opened to traffic last week, and the other block will be opened after last-minute repairs on the street. The City Council voted for the new name at its meeting Tuesday.
