Longshot Mausie and Heavy Favorite Aberuschka Score Midwick Victories

Longshot Mausie and heavily favored Aberuschka were narrow winners Wednesday in the split divisions of the Midwick Handicap before a crowd of 43,585 at Santa Anita’s Oak Tree meeting.
Mausie, an 8-1 outsider ridden by Gary Stevens, won the $65,450 first division of the race for fillies and mares, by a head over Down Again.
Mausie covered one mile on Santa Anita’s turf course in 1:37 1/5 and paid $18, $9.40 and $6.60. Adorable Micol, the 6-5 favorite ridden by Chris McCarron, finished fifth.
Aberuschka, ridden by Patrick Valenzuela, won the $63,700 second division by a nose over Smooch in 1:38 2/5 and paid $3.80, $2.80 and $2.20.
