Tips for a Healthy Holiday for Pets
Holiday tips for a healthy pet have been offered by the Southern California Veterinary Medical Assn. The recommendations include:
Share your Thanksgiving dinner with your pet if you wish, but serve the turkey boneless and exercise moderation when it comes to the hors d’oeuvres, gravies, dressings and desserts, all of which can be harmful to a pet’s health.
Poultry bones splinter easily and can become lodged in a pet’s throat or can puncture the intestines.
If a pet is choking, immediately open the animal’s mouth as wide as possible to check for any visible food. If choking persists, call a veterinarian immediately.
