A 2-year-old Santee girl is in stable condition in the intensive care unit at Children’s Hospital after being mauled by a neighbor’s dog, Sheriff’s Sgt. Ron Cottingham said.
Sarah Ann Christensen, who lives in the 9700 block of Abbeywood Road, was taken by paramedics to Sharp Memorial Hospital and was later transferred to Children’s. She suffered severe cuts and blood loss in the attack, Cottingham said.
It is believed that the neighbor’s dog, a malamute-wolf crossbreed, entered the yard Tuesday afternoon through a hole in the fence. When the mother found the mauled infant, she was unconscious from the blood loss, Cottingham said.
Sheriff’s deputies have impounded the dog believed responsible for the attack.
