Local News in Brief : 2 Men Indicted in Death of Sea Lion

A federal grand jury has indicted a Long Beach man and a Redondo Beach man in the killing of a sea lion that was found floating in the Redondo Beach harbor Oct. 26.
Randolph Tamio Mansfield, 36, of Long Beach was charged with killing a federally protected marine mammal. Steven Edward Mitchell, 34, of Redondo Beach was charged with aiding and abetting in the intentional killing of a marine mammal. Both men face a maximum penalty of one year in prison and a $100,000 fine.
The 300-pound sea lion that harbor residents had named Bobo died after being fed an explosive device, according to officials at the National Marine Fisheries Service.
