Community College Roundup : Fullerton’s Jacobs Pitches One-Hitter

Kristin Jacobs of Fullerton College pitched a one-hitter to lead the Hornets to a 3-0 victory over Cypress Friday in an Orange Empire Conference softball game at Cypress.
Jacobs took a perfect game into the sixth inning, but Rose Furrente reached on an error by shortstop Debbie Wagner to start the inning.
Furrente was picked off first, but then Alisha Bokano singled between third and short to break up the no-hitter.
Jacobs (20-8) had 10 strikeouts, including seven of the first nine batters.
In the Cypress baseball tournament:
El Camino 8, Cypress 3--Cypress’ Jason Friedman didn’t get a hit in four at-bats, ending his 23-game hitting streak. He flied out with the bases loaded in the ninth to end the game. Steve Gill had two hits and an RBI, and Joey Gonzalez had two hits for Cypress (22-11).
