I would like to applaud both “Family Ties” and “Growing Pains” for their recent episodes dealing with racial discrimination. It is gratifying to see that the more subtle prejudices (as opposed to the ‘60s) are not ignored. TV could, and should, play an important role in focusing the public’s attention on social problems.
