IN BRIEF : Agreement Allows Soviet Boxers to Have Professional Bouts in U.S.

NEW YORK — Soviet boxers will fight professionally in the United States, possibly beginning late this year, it was announced at a news conference today.
It will happen under an agreement among Momentum Enterprises Inc. of New York, the Soviet Boxing Federation and Sovintersport, which is the entity responsible for the commercialization of Soviet sports.
“There is a confidentiality clause in the contract, but I can say it is for 10 years, worldwide, exclusive and a joint venture,” Lou Falcigno, president of Momentum, said at the news conference.
A first group of six Soviet boxers will come here by October, although two could arrive in June, according to Falcigno.
“We hope to get a fight in this year or very early next year,” Falcigno said, “but we might wait and have all six fight on the same card.”
Falcigno said the boxers will be signed to individual two-year contracts but will be paid by Soviet authorities.
