Polaroid Corp.: The Cambridge, Mass.-based instant camera and film firm said first-quarter earnings climbed to $25.9 million from $14.2 million a year ago. Sales rose to $442.3 million from $410.1 million. The latest results include $38.5 million in expenses for fighting off an unwanted takeover attempt by Shamrock Holdings. Polaroid said first-quarter results reflect fundamental changes that it has made in its cost structure, work force, manufacturing operations and marketing direction.
