A concert this week featuring the Motown group The Boys raised over $8,000 for scholarships and provided musical therapy for survivors of the Cleveland Elementary School massacre in Stockton. Nearly 3,000 children and their families attended the performance at the University of Pacific. Said one teacher, “. . . without a doubt, this is the kind of medicine we need.” Others remarked it was the first time they’d seen smiles on the faces of traumatized Cleveland schoolchildren since five were killed there and 29 others and one teacher were injured Jan. 17 by a drifter with an AK-47 semiautomatic assault rifle. The gunman, Patrick Purdy, 24, killed himself with a handgun after spraying the schoolyard with more than 100 rounds of semiautomatic rifle fire.
