The “CBS Evening News” won the recently ended ratings season, but ABC’s “World News Tonight” is coming on strong, as it did at this time last year when it topped the ratings for six weeks. (However, after that, CBS notes, Dan Rather & Co. began winning again.) Last week, ABC’s Peter Jennings-anchored broadcast won its third consecutive victory over CBS. It averaged a 10.0 rating, the latest Nielsen charts showed Tuesday. Rather’s CBS newscast got a 9.3 rating, and Tom Brokaw’s usually third “NBC Nightly News” stayed there with an 8.9 reading. Each ratings point represents 904,000 homes.
