Bobby Brown, who hit solo stardom after leaving the group New Edition, is the Act of the Year winner in the third annual Boston Music Awards. Brown beat out Aerosmith, Tracy Chapman, New Edition and New Kids on the Block for the top honor. Brown and Chapman were named top male and female vocalists. Chapman’s self-titled debut album was named outstanding pop or rock album and she also picked up the outstanding songwriter award for “Talkin’ Bout a Revolution.”
