A freak shooting incident in Los Angeles has caused the University of Utah to lose its top basketball recruit, forward Marcel Driver of Citrus College in Glendora, for next season.
Driver, a 6-8 forward from Detroit who led California junior colleges in scoring and rebounding last season, was apparently the victim of a random shooting. He was shot in the upper leg while leaving a theater with some teammates last week.
Utah assistant coach Larry Eustachy said Driver “almost lost his leg” and had to have an artery transplanted to save it.
