Japan’s GNP Soars: Japan’s gross national product in the third quarter posted the highest growth in 16 years. The government said the GNP for the July-September period grew 2.9% over the preceding quarter for an annual rate of 12.2%. It said in a preliminary report that Japan’s real GNP--the total value of goods and services produced--stood at 350.52 trillion yen, or $2.43 trillion.
