COLLEGE BASKETBALL ROUNDUP : Irvine Women Win in Oregon State Tournament

Jenny Lee scored 22 points to lead the UC Irvine women’s team to a 59-57 victory over Southern Utah State in the first round of the the Oregon State tournament in Corvallis.
Lee, a junior who went to South Eugene High School in Oregon, also made five three-point baskets. Kathy Lizarraga and Evonne Catala had 11 points each for Irvine, which rallied after trailing, 31-27, at the half.
In nonconference women’s basketball:
UCLA 84, Cal State Fullerton 75--Rehema Stephens 31 points for host UCLA (4-1) at the Wooden Center. Genia Miller scored 34 and had 18 rebounds and four blocks for Fullerton (3-2). UCLA led, 42-39, at the half, and Fullerton never was closer.
In the Christ College Irvine men’s tournament:
Southern California College 85, Caltech 28--Southern California College led, 32-24, at the half but then held Caltech to four points in the second half.
Dave Blum led SCC with 14 points. SCC plays Redlands at 8 p.m. for the championship.
Redlands 103, Christ College Irvine 91--Christ College Irvine pulled to within six points of Redlands College at 82-76 late in the second half but came up short in a first-round game. Guard Jamie McShan scored a game-high 32 points, and forward Kevin Kurz had 17 rebounds for Christ College Irvine (3-7).
