Controversy at Saddleback College Paper
I was amazed to read the story in the Dec. 20 issue of The Times that gave the impression that I was not satisfied with the student Lariat apology issued Dec. 19.
First, I had not talked with anyone from The Times since last week. Second, since I was home ill with the flu, I had not seen the apology until this morning in (college) President (Constance M.) Carroll’s report to me on the matter.
The remarks attributed to me were made about the original Lariat response, which was far short of an apology.
I have read Carroll’s report and believe that the apology of Dec. 19 amounts to the kind of response that I felt was minimal. So far as I am concerned, students have learned a great deal from this experience and are now on the right track for the future.
