Peter M. Ochs Named Builder of the Year

Peter M. Ochs, founder and chairman of the Fieldstone Co., Newport Beach, has been named 1989 Builder of the Year by Professional Builder magazine.

The 46-year-old builder founded his firm in 1981 after a career at the William Lyon Co. The Fieldstone Co. ranked 10th of 194 Southern California builders surveyed by The Times last March, with 1988 sales volume of $207.5 million based on 1,230 houses.

In the cover story for its December, 1989, issue the trade magazine singled out Ochs for his contributions to “participatory management” in an “industry characterized by more autocratic management styles, where power is . . . concentrated in a single entrepreneur at the top.”
